How to Vote

Absentee

​

The last day to submit an absentee ballot for the 2025 Primary Election is June 24 and must be received by no later than July 1st. To apply for an absentee ballot and vote by mail, visit: absenteeballot.elections.ny.gov

​Early

​

Early voting in the 2025 Primary Election will be held from June 14 - 22. Find your early vote location below or at: voterlookup.elections.ny.gov

Election Day Voting

 

Vote in the 2025 Primary Election on June 24. Find your polling location below or at:   voterlookup.elections.ny.gov

Primary Election Dates & Deadlines

Voting in Person
 

  • June 14-22: Days of Early Voting for the Primary Election.

  • June 24::  Primary Election Day. 


Absentee/Early Voting by Mail

  • June 14: Last day for the board of elections to receive application or letter of application by mail or online portal for the Primary election ballot. 

  • June 23: Last day to apply in person for the Primary election ballot. 

  • June 24: Last day to postmark the Primary election ballot. Must be received by the county board no later than July 1st. 


Primary Election Registration Dates

  • June 14: Voter Registration Deadline for Primary: Last day application must be received by the board of elections to be eligible to vote in the Primary election. 

  • June 9: Change of address for General: received by this date must be processed. 


Military/Special Federal Voters

  • May 9: Deadline to transmit ballots eligible to Military/Special Federal/UOCAVA voters. 

  • June 14: Last day for a board of elections to receive applications for Special Federal/UOCAVA absentee ballot for general by mail if NOT previously registered. 

  • June 14: Last day for a board of elections to receive applications for Military absentee ballot by mail if NOT previously registered. 

  • June 17: Last day for a board of elections to receive applications for Military/Special Federal absentee ballot for general by mail if previously registered. 

  • June 23: Last day to apply in person for a Military absentee ballot for general if previously registered. 

  • June 24: Last day to postmark Military/Special Federal/UOCAVA  return ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than July 1st.. 

Registration FAQ

Qualifications to Vote:

​

 

  • You must be a United States citizen and at least 18 years old. You may pre-register at 16 or 17, but you won’t be able to vote until you are 18.

  • You must also be a resident of New York, for at least 30 days before the election. If you are changing your registration to another address within New York, you must be a resident of your respective county, city, or village for at least 20 days before the election. You must also not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

  • You must not be in prison, or be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court. Citizens on parole, probation, or other supervised release CAN register to vote.

  • If you prefer to mail in your application or do not have access to an NYS driver's license, permit, or non-driver ID card, you should complete an application to register to vote and mail it to your County or City Board of Elections. When do I need to register?

​

 

  • Whether you register in person or online, you must do so at least 10 days before Election Day.

  • If you are voting by mail, it must be received 15 days before Election Day.
