Friends, neighbors, and fellow Trojans,

Temperatures and humidity are climbing this week, including in Troy. It’s important to stay cool during the next few days (drink plenty of water, seek air conditioned spaces, and stay out of the sun during the warmest times of the day). Governor Hochul issued an update on how New Yorkers can prepare for extreme heat.

Remember to check on neighbors and family who might need help during the hot weather. Splash pads are activated at parks around the city, and I’ve asked the administration to designate the Knickerbacker Ice Rink as a cooling center.

Don’t forget about our four-legged friends, too!

Kick It In Troy!

The World Cup is officially underway, and Trojans have plenty of opportunities to celebrate with their neighbors. The first match is today (Thursday, June 11), starting at 3 p.m. with viewing opportunities available at Riverfront Park at 255 Front St, and the Italian Community Center at 1450 5th Avenue.

Come out and enjoy with your friends, family and fellow fans! Remember to be smart about being outdoors during periods of high temperatures.

Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPR) Law

There continues to be strong turnout from residents on the council’s proposed law to regulate the use of ALPR technology in the Collar City.

Led by councilmember Noreen McKee, this law can serve as an example of how municipalities can effectively oversee how surveillance technology can be used to protect public safety while addressing personal privacy concerns.

We continue to engage with TPD as we await data from the existing cameras.

Lansingburgh Fire Station

It appears work has begun on the new fire station in Lansingburgh. The council has been pushing the administration to prioritize this important public safety project, and I’m pleased to see activity at the site on 2nd Avenue.

Last week, we authorized the purchase of new fire engine for the department, part of the council’s ongoing efforts to provide TFD the resources they need to keep Troy families safe.

1 Monument Square

Join us tonight (Thursday, June 11) at 6 p.m. at the Arts Center (265 River St) to learn about the proposed project for the 1 Monument Square site. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and share your thoughts.

The city council strongly favors transferring the project to Troy’s Community Land Bank rather than the Troy Industrial Development Authority (IDA) or the Troy Local Development Corporation (LDC).

As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns about issues in your neighborhood.

Onward,

Sue Steele
Council President
