April 4, 2026
Friends, neighbors, and fellow Trojans,
Happy Spring! With winter officially behind us, many of us are turning our attention to spring cleaning. If you are clearing out basements, garages, or under the kitchen sink, please remember to register for the upcoming household hazardous waste disposal event on May 9. This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of old household cleaning products and other items that can't be thrown away in your normal garbage.
The city council has been active the last several weeks, with more critical work ahead of us. Here is a look at what's coming up:
Upcoming Council Meeting: April 9
The council will meet to consider several legislative items, including:
- Authorizing the purchase of medical equipment for Troy's ambulance services;
- Confirming appointments to the city's Sustainability Taskforce;
- Creation of a Climate Smart Community Taskforce;
- Authorizing an agreement to share Household Hazardous Waste Collection And Disposal Services with Rensselaer County and the town of Bethlehem;
- Designating April 22, 2026, as Earth Day in Troy;
- Recognizing the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide;
- Recognizing April as Autism Acceptance Month in Troy;
Good Cause Eviction
In addition, the Council will vote to override the mayor's veto of tenant protection legislation—commonly known as Good Cause Eviction—originally approved by the council earlier this year. This override reaffirms our commitment to making Troy a more affordable place to live, particularly for the two-thirds of our residents who are renters.
Flock Contract
On Friday, the Mayor took the extraordinary step of issuing a state of emergency to continue payments to Flock without the Council's authorization. The Council is currently considering next steps.

Your Voice Matters
Thank you to the countless residents who contacted the council about this issue during the last several days. We appreciate your thoughts and feedback, and encourage you to stay engaged in the weeks and months to come.
Onward,
Sue Steele
Council President
